An Avon woman nearly threw away a winning Hoosier Lottery ticket worth $100,000 this week. Tanya Raines rescued her ticket and claimed her prize at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis Thursday, but her near-miss started when she purchased a 20X the Cash Scratch-off at Circle K at 6995 East Hwy 36 in Avon Tuesday morning, Oct. 1.
RainesRaines admitted she was in a hurry when she scratched most, but not all, of the ticket on her way to work. It didn't look like a winner, so she tossed the ticket aside, rushed into work, and forgot about it until the next day.
"I was cleaning out my car when I found it and thought I better finish scratching this," said Raines. "I'm glad I scratched it all the way!"
Raines, who celebrates her fiftieth birthday Monday, said she plans to put the money aside for her nest egg and her 13-year-old daughter's college fund.
"What a way to celebrate turning 50!" said Raines.
