Michael Mendyk has had some lottery luck. On August 16 the Minnesota City resident claimed a $100,000 prize from a Cash & Cadillac ticket he purchased at Kwik Trip, 7020 Highway 61 W. in Minnesota City. This is his second big win—he also won $100,000 on a scratch ticket in June 2012.
Mendyk scratched the play area on the Cash & Cadillac ticket and found a number match, so he knew that he won something. He scanned the ticket on a lottery ticket checker and knew that it was more than the retailer could pay. “I thought it was worth $1,000 or $10,000,” Mendyk recalled. He pocketed the ticket and headed home.
Later that day Mendyk and his wife, Becky, were going through some boxes when he said to her, “One more thing. I have a ticket that’s a winner.” He handed the ticket to Becky, who sat at the deck table and scratched the prize. She started scratching the prize amount on the right, and revealed three zeroes. “I thought it was $1,000,” she recalled. “I saw another zero and thought, ‘$10,000.’ When I saw it was $100,000, I couldn’t believe it!”
